Partners Interview – Peregrín

  1. How many years have you been cultivating broccoli? Almost 10 years.
  2. What caught your attention the most about our favorite vegetable?
It is the perfect crop for our area. Its cultivation has always been linked to temperate climates, especially Mediterranean areas whose climate is ideal for the proper growth of broccoli.
  3. Broccoli is considered by more and more people as the food of the 21st century. How do you think its evolution will be in the coming years?
The consumption of this cruciferous has increased significantly in recent years. Currently, consumers tend to include it in their shopping basket as they have begun to appreciate the multiple health benefits it provides. It is a very tasty food, of high quality, and offers a multitude of possibilities in the kitchen.
  4. How do you approach innovation in the field? New products, new cultivation techniques, new tools…
Our innovations in the field are mainly focused on increasingly sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture. We are committed to the rational use of phytosanitary products, which is why, for some years now, we have been immersed in Residue 0 production under the Zerya protocol, currently being audited and certified. We are also using a irrigation water reducer to use water responsibly and ensure much more efficient production.
  5. Have you noticed a change in society’s eating trends? What has this meant for your production in recent years?
In recent years, we have had a significant increase in the volume of broccoli production and marketing. We have expanded the cultivation area dedicated to this vegetable and have developed a new packaging line to handle the product at controlled temperature.
  6. The agricultural sector has proven to be essential in situations that required greater effort to supply the entire population. How have you perceived the support from people who have rallied behind you?
Despite the economic impact caused and still caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, our company has worked every day with great effort and sacrifice to guarantee the supply during the health crisis. With enormous commitment, our workers have ensured that products reach all homes around the world without any problem. Once again, it has been shown that agriculture remains the heart of the food chain, and without the dedication of the agricultural sector, transporters, and distributors, the functioning of this chain would have been impossible.
  7. How long have you been collaborating with Más Brócoli? And what do you appreciate most about this collaboration?
Peregrín has been associated with + Brócoli since 2015. The collaboration with + Brócoli brings us a lot. Thanks to their great outreach work, broccoli consumption has multiplied from 200g to 2 kilos per person in just 10 years, allowing us to increase our production and marketing volume.
  8. And finally, any favorite recipe that none of our fans should miss?
Broccoli hummus. It’s a very simple recipe, perfect for a healthy snack, and its ingredients provide vitamins, proteins, and fiber.
