How to store broccoli at home

Broccoli is a fresh food, and therefore, perishable, so we must be aware that its shelf life is limited. Proper preservation will make a difference in being able to use it and extend its storage days. Here are some recommendations for storing broccoli at home:

  • Fresh vegetables should be stored in the refrigerator if they will be consumed shortly, no more than five days to preserve their freshness.
  • If you don’t plan to eat it soon, it’s ideal to freeze it. You can blanch it or freeze it as is.
  • If the broccoli is wrapped in transparent plastic, leave it on until you’re ready to cook it; this way, it will last longer.
  • If the broccoli arrives home without that plastic, it’s best to put it in a bag to keep it cool and protected.
  • Do not wash the broccoli before storing, as this would accelerate its deterioration. It’s better to wash it with cold water just before consumption.

You already know that broccoli is easy to prepare. In [this video](https://www.youtube.com/embed/HyPKnGrEBCY?si=cOCtbMi4ws7cITLV), chef Julio Velandrino explains it perfectly.

It’s also important to choose broccoli in perfect conditions. To do this, check that the florets are compact and have a uniform dark green color. The yellowish color indicates that it is very ripe, so it’s best to discard these pieces to ensure maximum freshness.
