Partners Interview – Fruits and Vegetables of Fontellas

  1. How many years have you been cultivating broccoli?

Approximately 15 years.

  1. What attracted you the most to our favorite vegetable?

It’s a vegetable that handles sudden temperature changes better than others. Here in the north, that is very important for us—having a product that can easily adapt to our climate.

  1. Broccoli is increasingly considered the food of the 21st century by many people. How do you think its evolution will be in the coming years?

Right now, we can say it’s the second product we cultivate at FHF.

In our area, consumption is increasing, especially among the younger audience. We tend to take better care of ourselves, and broccoli is a very healthy food.

  1. How do you approach innovation in the field? New products, new cultivation techniques, new tools…

We are focusing on organic cultivation as a novelty.

  1. Have you noticed a change in society’s eating trends? What has this meant for your production in recent years?

We have always seen broccoli as an export product. Recently, we have seen our sales increase in the national market.

Thanks to this, we market this vegetable in different formats to reach different consumers.

  1. The agricultural sector has proven to be essential in situations requiring extra effort to supply the entire population. How have you perceived the support from people who have rallied behind you?

In Frutas y Hortalizas de Fontellas, we have not stopped working a single day.

The entire company has pulled together. We have managed to ensure that our products reach all our customers on time.

We would like the recognition for the sector to be reflected in support from society, and especially from authorities, to demand fair prices for a sector that has proven to be essential and is economically undervalued.

  1. How long have you been collaborating with Más Brócoli? And what do you appreciate most about this collaboration?

We have been collaborating for about 5 years.

In our area, the presence and promotion we have done hand in hand with the association have been very important.

We always associate the northern part of Spain, especially Navarra, with other more typical vegetables of the region. Thanks to Más Brócoli, we have shown that broccoli is also grown and marketed in our area.

  1. And finally, any favorite recipe that none of our fans should miss?

Baked Broccoli: Bread small broccoli florets and bake them at 180 ºC. You can add cheese to taste.

Quick, tasty, and very appealing even to the little ones.
