This morning, +Brócoli’s Scientific Committee organized the I Scientific-Technical Conference at the Cebas-Csic auditorium. The event, aimed at broccoli-producing companies and the agricultural sector, aimed to present the research lines of the Committee and its potential to improve production processes.
During the conference, significant challenges facing the sector were addressed, such as reducing nutrient and water input to crops, increasing resistance to climate change, and the use of by-products. The +Brócoli Scientific Committee positions itself as an invaluable source of knowledge and innovation for associated companies and others interested in the sector.
Toñi Piernas, president of the +Brócoli Association, highlighted the avant-garde of sector companies in terms of innovation and their dedication to addressing current challenges. Piernas stated: “Our companies are constantly looking to improve their processes and address the challenges we face. These conferences are an important step in addressing the needs of our members and further enhancing research and innovation in the sector.”
Micaela Carvajal, president of the +Brócoli Scientific Committee and researcher at CEBAS-CSIC, emphasized the importance of collaboration between producing companies and research institutions. “These conferences allow us to seek collaborations and access additional knowledge and resources related to climate change adaptation, quality improvement, and the use of by-products. Science plays a fundamental role in solving the problems faced by producers.”
Also, during the event, they had the participation of Álvaro Romero, a consultant from Paudire. During his presentation, he highlighted the importance of making known the financing possibilities for agri-food industries through R&D&I projects. Romero stated: “It is essential that companies in the sector know about the available financing opportunities to boost research and innovation.”
The conference featured the participation of Ana Allende, Vice Director of Cebas-Csic, as well as the +Brócoli Scientific Committee, composed of 9 prominent members from the research world. The event represents a valuable opportunity to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange among different players in the broccoli industry, with the aim of strengthening the sector and addressing current and future challenges.
