Broccoli is the most consumed vegetable in the United States

Gigante Verde brand has conducted a survey among the American population, interviewing over 5000 individuals aged 18 to 94, to determine the favorite vegetables of the average American consumer. The findings of this study have been published in conjunction with the National Eat Your Vegetables Day, a national celebration aimed at promoting vegetable consumption in the country.

From the +Broccoli Association, we stay updated on all information related to the current status of broccoli and promoting its consumption. This commitment leads us to highlight some of the discoveries that have come to light through this study.

Firstly, broccoli has been crowned as the favorite vegetable in a total of 29 states, followed in order of popularity by corn, carrots, potatoes, and asparagus. These data reveal a shift in the preferences of Americans, as more than half (54%) changed their choice compared to 2021. This is exemplified by Iowa, which transitioned from corn to broccoli in 2022.

On the other hand, despite the widespread belief that children dislike vegetables, 68% of the interviewed parents (more than two-thirds of the total) stated that their children frequently consumed vegetables by their own choice.

The popularity of broccoli continues to rise not only nationally but also beyond our borders and even across the pond, with Spain being one of the major exporters of this vegetable internationally.
