When buying it

The broccoli should be a deep green color. If you are going to buy it fresh, keep in mind that when it begins to yellow it indicates that it has lost vitamins and minerals. In the case of frozen broccoli, transfer it in isothermal bags to preserve the cold chain from the source to your home and thus maintain all its properties.


To keep it

Fresh broccoli should be kept in the refrigerator, preferably in large or perforated plastic bags, if it is not protected by a film.

Like most vegetables, fresh broccoli should not be washed before putting it in the fridge, as excess moisture favors the growth of mold. It is advisable to consume it in 3 or 5 days after acquiring it and if not, freeze it.

How to wash it?

It is recommended to wash whole broccoli before consuming it in cold water. Or you can put it under the water tap and wash it for two minutes. Or submerge it in a bowl with water that covers it completely. In any case, it is advisable not to keep it in water for too long, 2-3 minutes is enough.


How can we prepare it ...

It is important to know that broccoli can be prepared in many ways, since it is a very versatile food

Keep in mind that a broccoli is made up of different florets (the small “bushes” that compose it) and the stem, it is recommended to separate them since the cooking time is different.

We begin:

Boiled: cut the piece separating each of the florets from the broccoli stem. Place them in boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes, no more, in this way you will make them “al dente”.

Baked: cut into strips to taste, we recommend not very thin, broccoli, put on a tray suitable for the oven and a splash of EVOO and salt. Preheat the oven to 220º 10 minutes before putting it in and leave it at a medium temperature for 20 minutes.

In the microwave: cut the florets and the stem into slices, with a jet of EVOO and salt to taste, cook at maximum power for 5 minutes.

Raw in salads: cut to taste and season, and voila! It is delicious and maintains all its nutrients.

Fried: in a pan cut into sheets to taste and with oil, ready in 5 minutes!
