Broccoli with Bacon and Bechamel Sauce

Broccoli with Bacon and Bechamel is a winning dish that will surprise your loved ones.

Ingredients:

– 500 grams of broccoli
– 100 grams of bacon slices
– 25g butter
– 25g all-purpose flour
– 500ml milk
– 100g grated cheese
– Salt
– Ground white pepper

Instructions:

1. Separate the broccoli florets from the stem and cut them into similar-sized pieces. Save the stem for another recipe. Place them in a steamer and steam for 15-20 minutes or until slightly undercooked. Cut the bacon and sauté in a hot pan for a couple of minutes. Set both aside.

2. Prepare the bechamel sauce by heating the butter in a large saucepan. When it’s hot, add the flour, stir, and toast the mixture. Add half of the milk and stir with a metal whisk to avoid lumps. When it comes to a boil again, season with salt and pepper and gradually add the remaining milk while simmering over low heat for 20 minutes.

3. Cover the base of a baking dish with a layer of bechamel, then arrange a layer of broccoli, followed by a layer of bacon and a layer of grated cheese. Cover with a bit of bechamel and repeat the layers. Pour the remaining bechamel on top, sprinkle with more grated cheese, and add some butter cubes (optional). Bake at 200ºC for 20 minutes or until it begins to brown on the surface. Serve hot.
